Scholarships

The Canadian Urban Transit Association's (CUTA) Scholarship Program was first introduced in 2004 with the intent of developing and fostering expertise to improve the visibility of Public Transit as a career option and develop a stronger pool of expertise for the industry's future.

Since its inception, there has been a significant increase in applications received, thus strengthening the ties between student bodies and transit organizations.

Students Interested in Applying for a Scholarship

CUTA is offering the Centennial Scholarship Award Program for 2010. This program is open to all students currently pursing a career in Public Transit or other related fields such as Urban Planning, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Land Use Planning, Transportation /Transportation Management and Geography.

Five $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to deserving students registered in full-time Canadian post-secondary institutions - one for each region (Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario, Prairies & Territories and British Columbia). The application process includes an essay question asking students to show how their course of study will prepare them for a career in public transit. We are also offering our applicants the opportunity to have their resumes posted on our website, which will allow CUTA members who may be recruiting to view an applicant's credentials and academic qualifications.  To ensure consistency in the scholarship selection process, a Scholarship Assessment Committee will be assembled to review applications from all 5 regions and the Committee will be chaired by the Vice-Chair of the Human Resources Committee. One student will be selected from each region and the winners of the competition will be announced at the next CUTA Trans-Expo Conference scheduled to take place in Vancouver in November 2010.

Please note that it is the student's responsibility to ensure that all documents are properly received by CUTA. Applications with missing documents will not be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee. The deadline to submit the 2010 Centennial Scholarship Awards Application along with all supporting documents is 27 August 2010.
