Federal Finance Committee Publishes Recommendations

The House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance, in its 2010 pre-budget consultation report, has recommended that “the federal government work with provincial, territorial and municipal governments in order to develop a strategic approach to resolving the nation’s long-term infrastructure needs. Moreover, the government should augment the existing program for the sharing of a portion of the federal gasoline excise tax revenues with municipalities.” This recommendation is in response to numerous submissions supporting investment in public transit. Also contained in the report is an NDP recommendation to “reattribute one extra cent of the existing gas tax to fund public transit in Canada.”
